MYRACL HOCKEY SUMMIT

Place:       Antigonish, Nova Scotia
Date:         Monday, February 28th, 2005
Time:        10:00am - 4:00pm


Location: Millenium Centre (Conference Room A - Upstairs Right)

THERE WILL BE NO COSTS FOR PARTICIPANTS - ALL INTERESTED INDIVIDUALS THAT ARE TRULY LOOKING AT MAKING POSITIVE CHANGE ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND!  

WE ARE LOOKING FOR MALE AND FEMALE REPRESENTATION - YOUNG, ADULT AND ELDERS TO TAKE PART IN THIS VERY IMPORTANT SESSION.

Description:   MYRACL, in conjunction with the Maritime Indian Hockey Association (aka MIHA) are hosting a one (1) day Hockey Summit to explore new ways in which we can work together as community members and individuals who love hockey to develop new ideas that will improve our current system.


PROPOSED AGENDA:

10:00am      Registration of Participants

10:15am      Opening Prayer

10:25am      Review of Agenda

10:30am      Current status of the Game

10:45am      The MIHA - It's make up, it's history and where it is today...
                     * What is working with the MIHA?
                     * What has to improve?

11:00am      Reviewing the MIHA Rules - What works and what doesn't?

11:45am      Where do we need to go?  (Break out into Groups)
                     A Brainstorming Session with the group to help work towards developing
                     an improved hockey system for the Aboriginal communities of N.S.
                     *** Decide on the core areas that need to be improved, each individual
                     will be asked to choose one of those areas and join a group ***

12:15pm     Groups come back together - Presentations to the Main Group

12:45pm     Review of the recommendations

  1:00pm    *** LUNCH BREAK - 1.0 Hour ***

NOTE:  Tryouts for the Team Atlantic Male (Nova Scotia & PEI squad) will be taking place on the Main Ice surface of the Millenium Centre from 1:00pm - 2:30pm.  Players are asked to be there one hour prior to the start of practice.

NOTE:  Tryouts for the Team Atlantic Female (Nova Scotia & PEI squad) are from 2:00pm - 3:30pm (Auxilliary Ice Surface).  Players are asked to be there one hour prior to the start of practice.

2:00pm        Review of the morning sessions

2:15pm        Implementing change:
                     a.  What major changes need to take place?
                          - suggestion:  training on the rules and suspension processes for new 
                            tournament coordinators before their tournaments are actually 
                            sanctioned.
                     b.  When do they need to take place?
                          - discussion on the remainder of 2004-05 Hockey Season vs. 05-06

3:00pm      Do we need to look at establishing our own Nova Scotia system
                     - governing body could be under the MYRACL organization
                     - development of a hand off disciplinary committee made up of appointed 
                       community volunteers that are knowledgeable about the game.
                     - coordinators recommend changes and report on tournament activity
                     - MYRACL oversees entire process

                    - Motions
                    - Actions / Outcomes
                    - Next meeting date

3:45pm       Closing Prayer
