North American Indigenous Games (NAIG)

Qualifying process for the 2002 NAIG (Winnipeg)

(July 25th - August 4th, 2002)

In 2002, the Nova Scotia Mi'kmaw Sports & Recreation Circle (our previous name before MYRACL was incorporated in the fall of 2003), worked in co-operation with the various Mi'kmaw host communities to organize qualifiers for both team and individual sports in the following categories in preparation for competition at the 2002 North American Indigenous Games scheduled for Winnipeg, Manitoba (Canada) from July 25th - August 4th, 2002.

Interested teams and individuals that qualified won the right to participate through either their teams or individual sport.  As shown, some of the deadlines for applications are listed in the sport categories below.  Strict deadlines were followed for both teams and individuals, and registration were encouraged way before the deadline to ensure their positions and names were maintained on our list of athletes and team in order to participate.

For more information on the 2002 North American Indigenous Games, and the results of the Nova Scotia athletes and how Team Nova Scotia placed among the top teams, please visit their web site at : www.2002naig.com

As indicated, there were a number of other qualifiers that were held in various communities through a selection and criteria process developed by the NSMSRC at the time with the underlying intention of developing and increasing the capacity of communities to host events in different sports both for NAIG development, but more importantly, community development for the long term.
