2004-2005 Nova Scotia Aboriginal Athlete Role Model Program

MYRACL is now actively in the process of re-establishing a Provincial Aboriginal Athlete Role Model Program, in partnership with our Mi'kmaw communities in the effort to promote and educate youth across the Province's Mi'kmaw communities through presentations in the Aboriginal school system.

We have been working to develop a strong partnership with the Aboriginal School System through their Principal Network in an effort to develop a partnership that will increase opportunity for school aged children and youth to participate in sport, recreation and active living programs.

We have also been developing plans and finalizing the presentation package for the Aboriginal Role Model Program with the selected Aboriginal Role Models and hope to have this program up and running by January 2005.

We have incorporated some of the ideas that are included in the National Aboriginal Role Model Program in conjunction with Sport Canada's Esteem Team but have also added a few things that will make our program more traditionally oriented to our region.
